F8BT, also known as PFBT or poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-alt-benzothiadiazole), is a semiconducting polyfluorene widely adopted as a green emitting reference material. It serves as the emissive species in OLEDs, as a polymeric acceptor in organic photovoltaics, and, thanks to its roughly balanced hole and electron transport, as the active layer in OFETs and light emitting transistors.
Its deep HOMO and LUMO levels (-5.9 eV / -3.3 eV) give the polymer good air stability, while its liquid-crystalline and beta phases make it a frequent subject of fundamental research. Purity is >99.9%, achieved by Soxhlet extraction with methanol, hexane and chlorobenzene under argon.
Batch M0231A9 has an Mw of 115,766, an Mn of 46,234 and a PDI of 2.50, with batch-specific GPC data supplied so molecular weights can be cited reliably in publications. The material is an orange powder or flakes, offered in 250 mg, 500 mg and 1 g packs.
- Green emissive layer in OLEDs, including blends with F8 (PFO) in toluene for high-efficiency devices.
- Ambipolar active layer in organic field-effect transistors (OFETs).
- Emissive semiconductor in light emitting transistors.
- Polymeric acceptor in organic photovoltaic (OPV) and polymer solar cell research.
- Reference polymer for studying liquid-crystalline and beta phases in conjugated polymers.
