Formamidinium bromide (FABr), also known as formamidine hydrobromide (CAS 146958-06-7), is a white powder or crystalline organic salt supplied by Ossila as a precursor for organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites. Product code M562 is the 99% purity grade, offered in 10 g and 25 g packs.
Its main role is in preparing FAPbBr3 and formamidinium lead bromide-iodide mixed halide perovskites (FAPbIyBr3-y). By adjusting the halide ratio, the bandgap of the formamidinium lead trihalide system can be tuned between 1.55 eV and 2.3 eV, which affects colour, photoexcited species lifetime and charge transport through the layer, making it useful for multi-junction solar cell optimisation.
FAPbBr3 itself has an energy bandgap of 2.23 eV, which makes it a strong candidate for tandem solar cells. The material is also used across other electronic devices, including field-effect transistors (FETs) and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
- Synthesis of FAPbBr3 perovskite absorber layers.
- Preparation of formamidinium lead bromide-iodide mixed halide perovskites with tunable bandgaps.
- Research on tandem and multi-junction perovskite solar cells.
- Fabrication of perovskite light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
- Development of perovskite-based field-effect transistors (FETs).
