Ossila M552 is formamidinium iodide (FAI), the iodide salt of formamidine, supplied at 99.995% purity as determined by ICP-OES. Also known as formamidine hydroiodide (CAS 879643-71-7, CH5IN2), it appears as a white powder or crystals and is a key precursor for preparing formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) and other organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites.
FAPbI3 has a bandgap of 1.48 eV, narrower than the ~1.57 eV of the widely used methylammonium lead iodide, which places it nearer the ideal range for high solar conversion efficiency. Published work shows that crystallizing FAPbI3 by exchanging DMSO molecules intercalated in PbI2 with FAI has produced devices performing above 20%, while combining FAPbI3 with MAPbBr3 stabilizes the perovskite phase and has pushed efficiencies beyond 18%.
Beyond photovoltaics, FAI is relevant to a range of electronic devices, including FETs and LEDs. M552 is offered in 5 g, 10 g and 25 g quantities.
- Precursor for synthesizing formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) absorber layers in perovskite solar cells.
- Preparation of mixed-cation perovskites such as (FAPbI3)0.85(MAPbBr3)0.15 for higher-stability devices.
- Intramolecular exchange processing with DMSO-intercalated PbI2 to fabricate high-efficiency FAPbI3 films.
- Research on perovskite materials for FETs and LEDs.
