These clear borosilicate glass vials (product code C2005C1-CT) are 2 ml screw-top containers for keeping solvents, solutions and samples in the laboratory. Each pack contains 100 vials and 100 closed-top polypropylene caps fitted with silicone septa lined with red PTFE. The approximate total volume is 1.85 ml, with a recommended usable volume of 1.5 ml.
Clear glass gives an unobstructed view of the contents, which makes these vials well suited to checking how a material dissolves or disperses. Borosilicate glass is chemically compatible with most chemicals, and the PTFE lining is the only part of the cap meant to touch the stored liquid. PTFE offers the widest chemical compatibility of any lining material, while the silicone backing resists swelling from solvent vapours, helping the lining stay intact.
The caps are made of virgin grade polypropylene that resists common solvent vapours, so lids do not dissolve and fuse to the glass during long-term solvent storage. The vials can be sterilised by autoclaving at 121°C for 20 minutes.
- Storing laboratory solutions in a sealed, chemically inert container.
- Testing the solubility or dispersibility of materials while observing the solution through clear glass.
- Keeping small quantities of solvents and aggressive chemicals under a PTFE-lined seal.
- Holding samples that require autoclave sterilisation before use.

Borosilicate glass is not compatible with hydrofluoric acid or concentrated hydroxide solutions, and PTFE should not be used with diethyl amine, some alkali metals, fluorine or other strong fluorinating agents. The silicone backing and polypropylene cap should not contact the stored material directly. Dust that settles in vials kept outside a clean environment can be removed with a squeezy air puffer or short bursts of compressed air.
