Ossila M2393B1 is a high-purity graphite micropowder with a purity of 99.98% and a particle size of 1 – 5 μm. Graphite (CAS 7782-42-5, formula C) is a naturally occurring crystalline form of carbon and one of its most stable forms under standard conditions. The powder is grey to black, and the manufacturer lists this grade among its graphite micropowders for Li-ion battery work.
In graphite, carbon atoms form hexagonal, one-atom-thick sp2 sheets held together only by weak van der Waals forces and π–π interactions. Because the sheets slide and cleave easily, graphite is soft and slippery, unlike diamond. It also combines refractoriness, high structural strength at high temperature, high thermal shock resistance, high thermal and electrical conductivity, low thermal expansion and good chemical resistance.
Its high purity makes it a good starting material for liquid exfoliation into single-layer or few-layer graphene nanosheets. It also suits intercalation studies, where cations such as Li+ are inserted between the graphite layers.
- Anode and battery material research, including intercalation of Li+ ions between graphite layers.
- Liquid exfoliation to produce single-layer or few-layer graphene nanosheets.
- Formulation of conductive coatings and electrodes.
- Lubricant, refractory and crucible applications that rely on graphite's thermal stability.
- Research on carbon nanomaterials and 2D materials.
