Ossila M2393C1 is a graphite micropowder with 99.99% purity and a particle size of 5 – 10 μm. Graphite (CAS 7782-42-5, formula C) is a naturally occurring crystalline form of carbon and one of its most stable forms under standard conditions. The powder is grey to black.
In graphite, carbon atoms form one-atom-thick hexagonal sheets of sp2 bonded layers held together by weak van der Waals forces and π–π interactions. Because the layers slide and cleave easily, graphite is soft and slippery, unlike diamond. It also offers refractoriness, high structural strength at high temperature, high thermal shock resistance, high thermal and electrical conductivity, low thermal expansion and good chemical resistance, combining metallic and non-metallic behaviour.
Its high purity makes this powder a good starting material for liquid exfoliation into single- or few-layer graphene nanosheets, and for intercalation studies in which cations such as Li+ are inserted between the graphite layers. It is supplied in 50 g, 100 g and 250 g packs.
- Liquid exfoliation to produce single-layer or few-layer graphene nanosheets.
- Intercalation research, such as inserting Li+ cations between graphite layers for battery studies.
- Preparation of electrodes and conductive coatings.
- Formulation of lubricants, paints and refractory materials.
- Production of crucibles, bearings and welding rods.
