Ossila M2393D1 is a high purity graphite micropowder with a purity of 99.995% and a particle size of around ~17 μm. Graphite (CAS 7782-42-5, formula C) is a naturally occurring crystalline form of carbon and one of the most stable forms of the element under standard conditions. This grade is listed for lithium-ion battery work, with a capacity of 350.1 mAh/g and a specific surface area of 1.48 m2/g.
In graphite, carbon atoms form hexagonal, one-atom-thick sp2 sheets held together only by weak van der Waals forces and π–π interactions. Because the layers cleave and slide easily, graphite is soft and slippery, in contrast to diamond. The material also offers refractoriness, strength at high temperature, thermal shock resistance, high thermal and electrical conductivity, low thermal expansion and good chemical resistance.
Its high purity makes the powder a good starting material for liquid exfoliation into single or few-layer graphene nanosheets, and for intercalation of cations such as Li+ between the graphite layers. It is supplied as a grey to black powder.
