Ossila M2393E1 is a graphite micropowder with a particle size of 1 – 2 μm and a purity of 99.95%. Graphite (CAS 7782-42-5) is a naturally occurring crystalline form of carbon and one of its most stable forms under standard conditions. The powder is grey to black and is supplied in 50 g and 100 g packs.
Graphite combines metallic and non-metallic character. It offers high thermal and electrical conductivity, low thermal expansion, good chemical resistance, high thermal shock resistance and strong structural strength at elevated temperature. Its carbon atoms form one-atom-thick hexagonal sheets held together by weak van der Waals forces, so the layers slide and cleave easily, giving graphite its low hardness and slippery feel.
Because of its high purity, this powder suits liquid exfoliation to produce single-layer or few-layer graphene nanosheets, and intercalation studies where cations such as Li+ are inserted between the graphite layers. It is also relevant to work on lubricants, conductive coatings, electrodes, batteries and refractories.
- Liquid exfoliation of graphite to produce single-layer or few-layer graphene nanosheets.
- Intercalation research in which cations such as Li+ are inserted between graphite layers.
- Battery materials research, including graphite-based electrodes.
- Formulation of conductive coatings and paints.
- Development of lubricants, refractories and crucibles.
