The Ossila C2013L1 is a carbon-based graphite working electrode with a 3 mm disc diameter. It is designed for standard electrochemistry cells and serves as the working electrode in techniques such as cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry and electrolysis.
Graphite is valued for its chemical stability, good electrical conductivity and high melting point, which makes it one of the most common electrode materials and suitable as either anode or cathode. Compared with glassy carbon, graphite is less chemically inert but offers higher conductivity and a lower cost. Like other carbon electrodes, it allows scanning to more negative potentials than platinum or gold electrodes while still providing good anodic potential windows.
A practical advantage of graphite is surface renewal: its layered structure is slippery and flexible along the edge plane and peels along the basal plane, so polishing exposes a fresh electrode surface. The standard shape fits any cell, and the electrode delivers good performance in long-term experiments.
- Working electrode for cyclic voltammetry measurements in standard electrochemical cells.
- Linear sweep voltammetry studies of redox-active solutions.
- Bulk electrolysis experiments where the composition of the bulk solution is changed.
- Use as an anode or cathode in a range of electrochemical applications.
- Experiments requiring more negative potential scans than platinum or gold electrodes allow.
