Guanidinium bromide (GDBr), also called guanidine hydrobromide or guanidine monohydrobromide, is a guanidinium halide salt supplied by Ossila as a perovskite precursor material. It has the formula CH6BrN3 (CAS 19244-98-5), a molecular weight of 139.98 g/mol and a purity of 98%, and appears as a white powder or crystals with a melting point of 191 °C.
GDBr and related guanidinium compounds help form and stabilise 2D perovskite structures. Two interactions are responsible: van der Waals forces acting between neighbouring guanidinium cations, and hydrogen−halogen bonds linking guanidinium cations to halide ions in adjacent layers.
Adding the guanidinium cation to a perovskite film also improves its electronic quality. Hydrogen supplied by the guanidinium salt creates a hydrogen-bonding effect that lowers the defect density of the film and extends carrier lifetime, which makes this material relevant to researchers working on perovskite solar cells and perovskite light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Published studies have linked guanidinium to enhanced carrier lifetime and open-circuit voltage in hybrid perovskite solar cells. The product is offered in a 25 g pack size.
