Guanidinium iodide (GI), CAS 19227-70-4, is a high-purity guanidinium halide supplied by Ossila as a perovskite precursor material. With purity above 99%, it is supplied as a white powder or crystals and is aimed at researchers working on perovskite solar cells and perovskite LEDs.
Additives based on GI have been shown to markedly improve carrier lifetimes and open-circuit voltages in hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite solar cells. This effect is linked to the ability of the GI molecule to form hydrogen bonds, which is thought to passivate under-coordinated iodine species at grain boundaries, both on the film surface and inside the bulk.
In reported work using an ITO/TiO2/perovskite/Spiro-OMeTAD/Au device architecture, cells reached power conversion efficiencies above 17% together with an open-circuit voltage of 1.1 V. The compound is also known as guanidine hydroiodide, diaminomethaniminium iodide and guanidine monohydroiodide.
