The Ossila H-Type Electrochemical Cell C2012F1 is a 100 ml borosilicate glass cell built from two half-cells joined in an H configuration. An ion-conductive membrane (supplied separately) can be fitted between the compartments, keeping the working and reference electrodes apart from the counter electrode while still allowing ionic conduction.
Because the products formed at the anode and cathode cannot mix, each electrode reaction can be measured on its own without cross-contamination. Each half-cell has a screw-fit PTFE lid, a replaceable membrane seal, and feedthroughs for working, counter and reference electrodes. A gas inlet and outlet make degassing straightforward, and the inlet has a bubble filter that limits gas shock and bubbling in the solution.
The 100 ml version includes a Luggin capillary reference cell, which lets the reference electrode sit at an optimised position relative to the working electrode. Each half-cell holds 65 ml when filled above the bridge and 100 ml when filled to the thread.
- Battery research where anode and cathode products must be kept apart.
- Testing of ion-conductive membranes between two electrolyte compartments.
- Permeation experiments across a membrane or physical barrier.
- CO2 reduction experiments using separated electrode compartments.
