Ossila M791 is the sublimed grade of HATCN (1,4,5,8,9,11-hexaazatriphenylenehexacarbonitrile, also called HAT-CN6), CAS 105598-27-4, supplied at a purity above 99.0%. It is an organic semiconductor used mainly as a hole-injection layer (HIL) or charge-generation layer (CGL) material in organic light-emitting diodes.
HATCN belongs to the hexaazatriphenylene (HAT) family. Its molecules form a rigid, flat, electron-poor aromatic disc that stacks strongly through π–π interactions, which underpins its charge-handling role in layered devices. The material is a dark yellow powder or crystalline solid with a molecular weight of 384.27 g/mol and shows 0.5% weight loss at 430 °C by TGA.
Published work shows that a solution-processed HAT-CN hole-injection layer can match or exceed optimized PEDOT:PSS layers in external quantum efficiency, current efficiency and power efficiency. Because it injects carriers efficiently and helps stop layers from mixing or eroding during fabrication, it is considered a candidate replacement for PEDOT:PSS. It has been reported in PEDOT:PSS-free green, blue, sky-blue, red and white OLEDs, including tandem devices.
- Hole-injection layer (HIL) in vacuum-deposited and solution-processed OLEDs.
- Charge-generation layer (CGL) in tandem OLED stacks, for example combined with TAPC.
- PEDOT:PSS-free device architectures for phosphorescent and hybrid white OLEDs.
- Research on perovskite quantum-dot light-emitting diodes and perovskite solar cells.
- Buffer layers in inverted top-emitting OLEDs.
