Ossila M2437B1 is hydroxyapatite (calcium hydroxyphosphate, Ca5(PO4)3(OH), CAS 12167-74-7), a naturally occurring mineral supplied as a white micropowder with an average particle size of 10 – 20 µm and purity above 99.5%. It is aimed at battery research, where it is combined with cellulose or polymers to make composite functional separators.
In zinc-ion cells, separators based on hydroxyapatite help control desolvation of hydrated Zn ions and speed up ion transport, giving fast, even Zn deposition and stable operation for over 1600 hours at 1 mA/cm2. In lithium-ion systems it serves as a filler in polymer electrolytes, with a reported room-temperature ionic conductivity of 1.58 × 10−4 S/cm.
Separators made from hydroxyapatite and cellulose show high thermal stability up to 250 °C and strong flame retardancy. The material has a melting point of 1650 °C, 27.4% calcium and 12.5% phosphorus content. It is intended for research use only, not for human or clinical use.
- Fabrication of composite battery separators with cellulose or polymers.
- Functional separators for Zn-ion batteries that regulate Zn-ion desolvation and promote uniform Zn deposition.
- Filler in polymer electrolytes for Li-ion batteries.
- Thermally stable, flame-retardant separators for lithium-ion battery research.
- Green and sustainable energy materials research.
