Ossila M2404A1 is lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide (NCA) powder with the layered composition LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 (CAS 193214-24-3). It is a cathode active material for lithium-ion batteries, supplied as a black to grey powder, and is regarded as a strong next-generation candidate offering higher capacity than LiCoO2.
NCA is valued for high energy density, high thermal stability and low toxicity, which make it attractive for hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) electric vehicle cells. It combines high-voltage operation with good rate capability and cycling stability.
The material is also a common base for modification studies. Cathodes modified with carbon nanotubes, other metals or metal oxides can improve capacity and durability. Titanium substitution, for example, alters the oxygen lattice and local coordination, reducing cation migration and improving structural stability; Ti-substituted NCA has reached a reversible capacity of 198 mA h g-1 at 0.1 C with good cycling at cut-off voltages up to 4.7 V. The powder has a particle size of about 13 µm and a tap density of 2.68 g/cm3.
- Preparation of cathodes for lithium-ion battery research cells.
- Development of high energy density cathodes for HEV and PHEV batteries.
- Studies of surface coating, doping and substitution (such as Ti) to improve cathode stability.
- Investigation of high-voltage cycling and rate performance of layered oxide cathodes.
