Ossila M2403A1 is lithium nickel manganese oxide (LNMO, also written LMNO), a spinel LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 powder (CAS 12031-75-3) supplied as a cathode active material for lithium-ion batteries. It offers a theoretical specific capacity of up to 146.8 mAh g-1, a theoretical energy density of 650 Wh kg-1 and an operating voltage of 4.7 V vs. Li/Li+.
During charge and discharge, LNMO can be completely lithiated and delithiated with no evident change to its structure. Its three-dimensional spinel framework allows intrinsically fast lithium-ion diffusion, which supports good rate capability and cycling stability. In published work, an N-doped LNMO cathode delivered 103 mA h g-1 at 25 °C after 8000 cycles and kept 92% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 60 °C.
Compared with conventional LiFePO4 and LiCoO2 cathodes, LNMO combines relatively low cost with excellent thermal stability. Its low nickel content also makes it a candidate material for hybrid electric vehicle batteries. The black to grey powder is available in 50 g, 100 g and 250 g packs.
