Ossila M2428A1 is a lithium titanium oxide (Li4Ti5O12, CAS 12031-95-7) powder, also called lithium titanate or LTO, supplied as a high purity spinel micron powder for use as an anode active material in lithium-ion batteries. It is a white to off-white material with purity above 99%, a D50 particle size below 1.6 µm and a specific surface area of around 18 m2/g.
In the spinel lattice, lithium sits in both octahedral and tetrahedral sites. Inserting an additional lithium ion gives Li7Ti5O12, linked to a higher electrochemical capacity of 175 mAh g−1. Although the structure changes during charging and discharging, the cubic unit cell parameters differ by less than 0.1%, which underpins the material's stability and very long cycle life.
Typical first-cycle performance is a capacity of about 160 mAh/g with a discharge efficiency near 95%. LTO is regarded as a strong anode candidate for future electric vehicle batteries and is of interest for thin-film batteries where improved stability is needed.
- Anode active material for lithium-ion battery fabrication and research.
- Development of thin-film batteries with improved stability.
- High-power cells pairing an LTO anode with LiMn2O4 and NCM cathodes.
- Battery research for electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and stationary power storage.
