MADN, or 2-methyl-9,10-bis(naphthalen-2-yl)anthracene (CAS 804560-00-7), is an anthracene-based small molecule best known as a blue emitter. In organic electronics it serves two roles: an efficient host for blue emissive layers and a hole-transporting material (HTM) in the hole-transport layer.
The material transports both holes and electrons (ambipolar behaviour), forms thin films with stable morphology and has a wide energy band-gap. Its HOMO and LUMO levels sit at -5.5 eV and -2.5 eV. Used as a hole-transport layer, MADN can limit the number of holes injected into a device, helping to balance carrier recombination.
Ossila supplies MADN as a white powder or crystals purified by sublimation to >99.0%, a grade suited to vacuum-deposited and solution-processed OLED research. Reported devices include green OLEDs with MADN as the hole-transport layer and deep-blue and blue devices with MADN as the host for dopants such as BD1 and DPAVBi.
- Host material for blue and deep-blue emissive layers in OLEDs.
- Hole-transport layer material for balancing carrier recombination in OLEDs.
- Host for green-emitting dopants such as C545T in fluorescent OLEDs.
- Research on phosphorescent OLEDs (PHOLEDs) and organic photovoltaics (OPV).
- Solution-processed OLED device studies.
