MeO-2PACz, or (2-(3,6-Dimethoxy-9H-carbazol-9-yl)ethyl)phosphonic acid (CAS 2377770-18-6), is a small self-assembled monolayer (SAM) molecule derived from 2PACz. It is supplied as an off-white powder or crystals with a purity above 98% (HPLC) and is used as a hole transport or hole extraction layer in NFA-polymer solar cells and p-i-n perovskite solar cells.
Its structure pairs an electron-rich dimethoxy carbazole core with an ethyl phosphonic acid anchor at the 9-position of the ring. The anchor binds to ITO or other metal oxides, so the molecule forms an interface between the electrode and the photoactive layer. Placing a nickel oxide (NiO) interlayer between ITO and MeO-2PACz improves coverage and uniformity of the monolayer and gives devices higher shunt resistance.
As a hole-selective contact, MeO-2PACz offers an alternative to PEDOT:PSS and can be deposited from solution at low concentrations such as 1 mM. It has been reported as a substrate that stabilises black-phase FAPbI3, with inverted perovskite cells reaching a PCE of 22.13% and retaining 92% of initial efficiency after 800 h ageing in ambient conditions. Available in 500 mg and 1 g packs.
