Ossila M2008D8 is a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) powder, CAS 308068-56-6, supplied dry as a black fibrous powder. It is used to raise the mechanical or electrical performance of materials, for example as a reinforcing additive in composites.
Each MWCNT consists of several single-walled carbon nanotubes nested inside one another. The walls are built from a hexagonal lattice of carbon atoms, and this nanoscale tubular form gives the material useful mechanical, thermal and electrical behaviour. The stacked walls add stiffness and durability, helping composites become tougher and more reliable. MWCNTs also suit work where better dispersibility matters, and their synthesis and purification cost less.
This grade has a diameter of 10 – 30 nm, a length of 5 – 20 μm, a specific surface area of 120 – 170 m²/g and a purity of 99%. The powder can be dispersed in DI water, DMF, THF, ethanol or acetone. Functionalized derivatives with COOH or OH groups, nickel coatings or graphene combinations are also part of the MWCNT family.
- Reinforcing material composites to improve toughness and reliability.
- Enhancing the electrical properties of materials.
- Research on carbon nanomaterials and 1D materials.
- Thin-film electronics research.
- Preparing aqueous or solvent dispersions of carbon nanotubes.

MWCNTs are insoluble; for aqueous dispersion use a surfactant such as sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate below its critical micelle concentration, then sonicate and centrifuge. Limit sonication time and power, as excessive treatment can damage and shorten the nanotubes. Consult the MSDS before handling.
