n-Butylammonium bromide (BABr, CAS 15567-09-6) from Ossila is a perovskite precursor material with a purity of ≥ 98%. It is supplied as a white powder or crystals, has the formula C4H12BrN, a molecular weight of 154.05 g/mol and a melting point of 205.4 °C.
Researchers use BABr to adjust the structure of colloidal perovskite nanoplatelets, tailoring their absorption and emission energies and the resulting performance of perovskite LEDs and solar cells.
As a larger-group ammonium halide with surfactant behaviour, BABr added to a perovskite precursor solution strongly limits the growth of 3D perovskite grains. This can yield crystallites as small as 10 nm and films with roughness below 1 nm. In a reported green LED with a BABr:MAPbBr3 (20:100) emissive layer, a maximum EQE of 9.3% and a current efficiency of 17.1 cd/A at 1000 cd/m2 were achieved.
- Tuning colloidal perovskite nanoplatelet structures for target absorption and emission energies.
- Fabrication of perovskite light-emitting diodes with nanometer-sized crystallites.
- Additive in perovskite precursor solutions to restrict 3D perovskite grain growth and produce smooth films.
- Research on perovskite solar cells, including 2D–3D heterostructured perovskites.
