NaTFSI, or sodium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (CAS 91742-21-1), is a high-purity sodium salt of the TFSI− anion supplied by Ossila at >99.9% purity as a white powder or crystal. As the sodium counterpart of LiTFSI, it serves as an electrolyte salt for sodium-ion batteries, supercapacitors and ionic liquids.
In solid-state systems, NaTFSI supplies mobile sodium ions, while its large, delocalized TFSI− anions lower lattice friction and raise ionic conductivity. An organic ionic plastic crystal (OIPC) electrolyte combined with NaTFSI has reached an ionic conductivity of 10−4 S/cm, over three orders of magnitude above that of the pure OIPC.
NaTFSI can also act as the starting material for salt-in-presalt (SIPS) electrolytes, where methylation turns it into the presalt N,N-dimethyltrifluoromethanesulfonamide. A 0.5 M NaTFSI solution in this presalt showed electrochemical stability up to 6.7 V and a Coulombic efficiency of 99.7% at 2.0 mA/cm2 and 4.0 mAh/cm2 in a Na‖Al cell.
