Ossila M2211A25 is a medium-sized nickel phosphorus trisulfide (NiPS3) crystal, with a typical area of ≥25 mm2 and a purity of ≥99.999%. Grown synthetically by chemical vapor transport (CVT), this green, monoclinic crystal serves mainly as a bulk source for producing single-layer or few-layer NiPS3 sheets through mechanical or liquid exfoliation. The stated area is a typical representative size, so actual dimensions may vary.
NiPS3 is a quasi-two-dimensional, layered antiferromagnetic semiconductor with a Néel temperature of 155 K and a bulk bandgap of about ~1.6 eV, the smallest within the transition metal phosphorus trichalcogenide (MPX3) family. It can be doped as either p-type or n-type. Its layers are held together by weak van der Waals forces, which makes separation into thin nanosheets straightforward.
Antiferromagnetic order in NiPS3 survives down to bilayer structures but is strongly suppressed in the monolayer, making the material a useful model system for XY or XXZ-type magnetism. Crystals and the films made from them are suitable for examination by atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.
- Mechanical or liquid exfoliation to obtain monolayer and few-layer NiPS3 sheets.
- Research on two-dimensional magnetism and XY/XXZ-type antiferromagnetic model systems.
- Fabrication of FETs, switches, modulators and humidity sensors from NiPS3 nanosheets.
- Exploration of few-layer NiPS3 nanosheets as anodes for lithium ion batteries.
