Ossila M2211C1 is nickel phosphorus trisulfide (NiPS3) powder with a purity of ≥99.995%, supplied in 500 mg and 1 g packs. NiPS3 is a layered, quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnetic semiconductor with a Néel temperature of 155 K, and it is a member of the 2D transition metal phosphorus trichalcogenide (MPX3) family. The material is synthesised by chemical vapor transport (CVT) and is green in colour.
Within the MPX3 group, NiPS3 stands out for having the smallest bandgap, around ~1.6 eV in bulk, and for accepting both p-type and n-type doping in devices. It has a monoclinic structure (space group C2/m) built from layers held together by weak van der Waals forces, so the powder can be liquid-exfoliated into few-layer nanosheets, nanoparticles, nanoplates and ultrathin films.
Its magnetic ordering persists down to bilayer thickness but is strongly suppressed in the monolayer, making NiPS3 a useful model system for XY or XXZ-type Hamiltonians in studies of 2D magnetism.
