Ossila M2395B2 is a grade of hydroxylated single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT-OH), in which hydroxy groups are bonded to the nanotube surface. This short-length grade has a diameter of 2 nm, a length of 1 – 2 μm, an OH content of 4 wt% and a purity above 95%. It is supplied as a black fibrous powder.
Surface OH groups make the nanotubes easier to disperse, which gives more uniform composites with improved mechanical properties and thermal stability. The hydroxy groups can also hydrogen-bond with materials such as PEDOT:PSS, extending the PEDOT chain conformation and aiding electron conduction. In thermoelectric devices this has raised the power factor from 0.7 μW/m·K2 to 22 μW/m·K2.
SWCNT-OH tends to trap electrons more readily than pristine SWCNTs. Its standard heterogeneous electron transfer rate constant with Fe(CN)6 3−/4− is 25.9 × 10−4 cm/s, four times that of unfunctionalized nanotubes. Suitable dispersants include DI water, DMF, THF, ethanol and acetone.
