PCDTBT (CAS 958261-50-2), poly[N-9'-heptadecanyl-2,7-carbazole-alt-5,5-(4',7'-di-2-thienyl-2',1',3'-benzothiadiazole)], is a carbazole-based donor polymer for organic photovoltaics. Batch M0131A1 has an Mw of 42,661, an Mn of 18,804 and a PDI of 2.27.
Its relatively deep HOMO (-5.4 eV) and LUMO (-3.6 eV) levels raise open circuit voltage, extend absorption to longer wavelengths and improve stability in air. In the manufacturer's labs, a standard PEDOT:PSS / PCDTBT:PC70BM / Ca/Al device reached a power conversion efficiency of up to 6.7%. Published work using advanced interface layers and antireflection coatings reports up to 7.2%.
Because it stays stable under ambient conditions, PCDTBT is well suited to large-area coating methods such as ink-jet printing, spray coating and blade coating. It is part of the Luminosyn™ range. The polymer is purified by Soxhlet extraction with methanol, hexane and chlorobenzene under argon, and each batch comes with its own GPC data.
- Donor polymer in bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic devices blended with PC70BM.
- Active layer deposition by ink-jet printing, spray coating or blade coating thanks to its air stability.
- Hole-transport material in perovskite solar cells, as reported in the literature.
- Research on organic semiconductors for OLEDs and OFETs.
