PCPDTBT (C-PCPDTBT, CAS 920515-34-0) is a copolymer built from cyclopenta dithiophene and benzothiadiazole units. This low band-gap polymer semiconductor is a common choice for high-performance organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices thanks to its strong charge-carrier properties.
With a bandgap of 1.5 eV, comparable to PSBTBT, the polymer absorbs across a wide part of the visible spectrum and continues into the infrared. Its HOMO and LUMO levels sit at -5.3 eV and -3.6 eV respectively.
Because of its non-linear side chains, PCPDTBT is usually regarded as amorphous, although highly crystalline films of the branched side-chain form have been obtained through solvent vapor crystallization. Batch M2096A4 has a molecular weight of 63,376 and a PDI of 1.92. The material dissolves in chloroform, chlorobenzene and dichlorobenzene, with chlorobenzene recommended for processing at 10mg/ml.
- Donor polymer for high-performance organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices.
- Active layer material in bulk heterojunction and all-polymer solar cells.
- Hole-transport layer material, including in perovskite solar cells.
- Organic semiconductor for organic field-effect transistors (OFETs).
- Research into crystalline polymer films prepared by solvent vapor crystallization.
