PFO, also called F8, is poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl) (CAS 19456-48-5), a semiconducting polyfluorene tailored for organic electronics work. It is commonly used as the host component in blends with F8BT to produce efficient green-emitting OLEDs, and it also belongs to the OPV, polymer solar cell and OFET material families.
The polymer dissolves in o-xylene, toluene and chlorobenzene. Purification is carried out by Soxhlet extraction using methanol, hexane and chlorobenzene under argon, and each batch comes with its own GPC data. The current batch, M0161A6, has an Mw of 96,062, an Mn of 41,103 and a PDI of 2.34, giving precise molecular weight values for citing in publications or theses.
A blended ink can be processed either in air or inside a glove box with little change in performance, as long as light exposure and exposure time are kept low. At 10 mg/ml, 100 mg of F8 is enough for roughly 200 devices on 20 x 15 mm ITO substrates, assuming 50% solution usage.
- Emissive layer host blended with F8BT at 19:1 for high-efficiency green OLEDs.
- Fabrication of simple OLEDs using PEDOT:PSS hole-transport layers and Calcium/Aluminum cathodes, reaching >100 cd/m2.
- Research on organic photovoltaic (OPV) and polymer solar cell devices.
