PFO (F8), or poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl), is a polyfluorene semiconducting polymer tailored for organic electronics work, including OLEDs, organic photovoltaics and OFETs. It dissolves in o-xylene, toluene and chlorobenzene, making it straightforward to formulate as a spin-coatable ink.
For efficient green OLEDs, F8 is typically blended with F8BT. The resulting ink performs similarly whether processed in air or in a glove box, as long as exposure time and light levels are kept low. At a working concentration of 10 mg/ml, 100 mg of F8 is enough for around 200 devices on 20 x 15 mm ITO substrates, assuming 50% solution usage.
The polymer is purified by Soxhlet extraction with methanol, hexane and chlorobenzene under argon. Batch M0161A6 has an Mw of 96,062, an Mn of 41,103 and a PDI of 2.34, giving a dependable molecular weight reference for publications.
- Emissive layer in green polymer OLEDs when blended with F8BT at a 19:1 ratio.
- Fabrication of basic OLEDs using PEDOT:PSS hole-transport layers and Calcium/Aluminum cathodes, reaching >100 cd/m2.
- Research on organic photovoltaic (OPV) and polymer solar cell materials.
- Active material studies for organic field-effect transistors (OFETs).
