PSBTBT, also sold under the synonym Si-PCPDTBT (CAS 1089687-02-4), is a dithienosilole-based semiconducting polymer with a low band gap. Its broad absorption covers much of the visible spectrum and reaches into the near-infrared, which makes it a candidate donor material for organic photovoltaics, all-polymer solar cells, OFETs and photodetectors.
The silicon bridge in the backbone forms a C-Si bond that is notably longer than the equivalent carbon bond. This eases steric crowding between the bulky 2-ethylhexyl side chains and the neighbouring thiophene rings, giving a semi-crystalline polymer with a tighter π-π stacking distance.
Batch M2095A3 has an Mw of 25,001, an Mn of 12,933 and a PDI of 1.93. The polymer dissolves in chloroform, chlorobenzene and dichlorobenzene, with chlorobenzene recommended for processing at 10mg/ml. Reported energy levels are HOMO = - 5.0 eV and LUMO = - 3.5 eV.
- Donor polymer in the active layer of organic photovoltaic and tandem polymer solar cells.
- Active material for all-polymer solar cell research.
- Semiconducting channel material in organic field-effect transistors (OFETs).
- Light-absorbing layer in photodetectors extending into the near-IR region.
- Research on thermoelectric properties of high-mobility polymeric semiconductors.
