Ossila M2442A1 is a battery-grade silicon (Si, CAS 7440-21-3) nanopowder with a purity above 99.5% and an average particle size (D50) of 90 nm. Supplied as a dark brown polycrystalline powder, it is a semiconductor with a 1.12 eV bandgap and is aimed mainly at anode development for lithium-ion batteries.
Silicon attracts attention as an anode because of its theoretical capacity of 3579 mAh/g (Li15Si4). Silicon-based anodes offer high energy density, restrict interphase growth and avoid Li dendrites in solid-state cells. Working at the nanoscale helps the material cope with the roughly 300% volume expansion that occurs on lithiation, supporting better structural integrity and longer cycle life.
With a specific surface area of 45 – 80 m2/g, the powder promotes lithium-ion diffusion and faster charge/discharge. It can be combined with conductive additives such as graphene or carbon nanotubes, or surface-modified with vinylene carbonate, polyethylene oxide and similar agents to improve conductivity, mechanical stability and performance.
- Anode active material for Li-ion battery research.
- Silicon-based anodes for solid-state batteries.
- Composite anodes with graphene or carbon nanotubes for improved conductivity.
- Exploratory studies in Li-S and Na-ion battery systems.
- Research into thermoelectric, photovoltaic and photocatalysis applications.
