Ossila M2013L6 is a grade of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs, CAS 308068-56-6) supplied as a black fibrous dry powder. Each tube is a rolled-up graphene sheet forming a hollow cylinder with a wall just one atom thick, which places SWCNTs among the one-dimensional carbon nanomaterials.
This grade has a diameter of 2 nm, lengths of 5 – 20 μm, a surface area of 450 m2/g and a purity of ≥ 95%. Their structure and small dimensions give SWCNTs notable mechanical, electrical, thermal and optical behaviour, and semiconducting character depends on the difference between the n and m indices.
As prepared, the nanotubes do not dissolve, but small concentrations can be suspended using surfactants with probe or bath sonication. Recommended dispersants include DI water, DMF, THF, ethanol and acetone. The material is offered in 250 mg, 500 mg and 1 g packs.
- Fundamental studies of the mechanical, electrical, thermal and optical properties of one-dimensional carbon materials.
- Reinforcement or functional filler in composite materials.
- Research into thin-film electronics using carbon nanomaterials.
- Preparation of surfactant-stabilised nanotube dispersions for further processing.

Refer to the Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube MSDS before use. When dispersing, mix solvent and surfactant below the surfactant's critical micelle concentration, and limit sonication time and power, since excessive sonication can damage the nanotubes and shorten their average length. Centrifugation helps separate individual tubes from bundles.
