Ossila M2395E1 is a grade of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT, CAS 308068-56-6) supplied as a black fibrous dry powder. Each nanotube is a rolled-up graphene sheet forming a hollow tube whose wall is a single atom thick, making it a one-dimensional carbon nanomaterial.
This grade has a diameter of 2 nm, a length of 1 – 2 μm, a surface area of 450 m2/g and a purity of ≥ 95%. Its structure and small dimensions give it notable mechanical, electrical, thermal and optical behaviour, which is why SWCNTs are studied on their own and added to composite materials.
As supplied, the nanotubes do not dissolve. Small concentrations can be suspended with the help of surfactants and ultrasonic treatment, and the recommended dispersants are DI water, DMF, THF, ethanol and acetone. The material is available in 250 mg, 500 mg and 1 g packs.
- Fundamental research into the mechanical, electrical, thermal and optical properties of one-dimensional carbon materials.
- Reinforcement or functional filler in composite materials.
- Preparation of nanotube dispersions and suspensions for thin-film electronics work.
- Raman and TEM characterization studies of individual nanotubes and bundles.

To disperse, combine solvent and surfactant below the surfactant's critical micelle concentration, add to the powder, shake, then sonicate with a probe or bath; sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate is suggested where an ionic surfactant is acceptable. Limit sonication time and power, as excessive treatment can damage the nanotubes and shorten them. Centrifugation separates individual tubes from bundles. Consult the MSDS before handling.
