Spiro-OMeTAD, also known as Spiro-MeOTAD (CAS 207739-72-8), is a spirobifluorene-based hole transport layer (HTL) material and among the most extensively researched choices for organic-inorganic electronic devices. This M291 grade from Ossila is the unsublimed version, with a purity above 99.0% by HPLC, supplied as a white to pale yellow powder.
Its spiro-linked structure gives the molecule a high glass transition temperature and good morphological stability, while keeping it easy to process and preserving strong electronic properties. The HOMO level sits at -5.0 eV and the LUMO at -2.05 eV, with an optical band gap of 2.95 eV. Thermogravimetric analysis shows 0.5% weight loss only above 360 °C, and the melting point is approximately 240 °C.
Researchers use this material in perovskite solar cells, solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells, OLEDs and polymer-based organic solar cells. Published perovskite work describes spin coating the compound from chlorobenzene with dopants such as LiTFSI, 4-tert-butylpyridine and a cobalt(III) complex.
