SPPO13, or 2,7-Bis(diphenylphosphoryl)-9,9'-spirobifluorene (CAS 1234510-13-4), is a small-molecule semiconductor for organic electronics. It can be processed from solution and serves as an n-type electron transport layer (ETL) material in OLEDs and related light-emitting devices.
The molecule pairs an electron-donating spirobifluorene core with two identical electron-withdrawing diphenylphosphine oxide groups, which makes it electron deficient. The related SPPO1 carries only one such group. When SPPO13 is blended with a hole transporting material such as TCTA, the mixture works as a universal bipolar co-host for blue, green and red phosphorescent emitters.
Ossila supplies SPPO13 as a white powder or crystals with a purity above 99.0% by HPLC. Reported values include HOMO 5.90 eV, LUMO 2.60 eV and a glass transition temperature of 123°C. Inverted OLEDs using SPPO13:TCTA co-hosts have reached a maximum EQE of 15.2% (blue), 16.3% (green) and 10.8% (red).
