Ossila Tin (IV) Oxide Powder (SnO2, CAS 18282-10-5), also called stannic oxide or tin dioxide, is an n-type semiconducting metal oxide supplied as a light yellow powder at 99.99% purity with a particle size of 30 – 50 nm. Its main role is as an electron transporting, hole-blocking layer in perovskite solar cells and dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), and it is also studied as an anode active material for lithium-ion batteries.
The material combines electron mobility of up to 260 cm2/V·s with a bandgap of 3.6 – 4.0 eV. With a HOMO level around −7.36 eV and a LUMO of −3.78 eV, SnO2 forms a large valence band offset against perovskite, which stops holes from crossing the interface and reduces charge recombination, helping raise power conversion efficiency. Perovskite devices built on tin oxide electron transport layers have reached a champion PCE of 24.63%.
In battery research, SnO2 is valued for its abundance, low cost and high theoretical capacity; SnO2/Co@C nanocube anodes have shown a reversible discharge capacity of 800 mAh g−1 after 100 cycles at 200 mA g−1.
