TSBF, or 2,7-Bis(9,9-spirobifluoren-2-yl)-9,9-spirobifluorene (CAS 518997-91-6), is a sublimed organic semiconductor with purity above 99%, supplied as a white to off-white powder or crystals. Its structure links three spirobifluorene units through the 2,7-positions, and it is mainly used as a fluorescent host in OLED devices.
The spirobifluorene family is valued for high glass transition temperatures (T g = 231 °C) together with good thermal and colour stability, which is why related compounds such as Spiro-OMeTAD are widely used in OLED work. The bulky, sterically hindered shape of TSBF suits it to host duties in emissive layers.
Layers doped with TSBF show a low amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) threshold and reduced electroluminescence efficiency roll-off, making the material a candidate for electrically pumped organic semiconductor laser diodes. It absorbs at 350 nm and fluoresces at 415 nm in THF, with HOMO = 6.1 eV and LUMO = 3.0 eV. Sublimation is used to reach ultra-pure grade material.
