Polyhydroxylated fullerene, also known as fullerenol, is a hydroxyl (-OH) functionalized form of C60 supplied as a dispersion in water at 4000 ppm. It is prepared from C60 fullerenes with a purity above 98%, and each C60 cage carries more than 40 hydroxyl groups.
This heavy hydroxylation gives the material high water solubility (>50 mg/mL), and in water it is present as monodisperse nanoparticles. Fullerenols are noted for strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory behaviour as well as a pronounced polishing effect.
These properties make the material relevant across a wide range of research fields, from pharmaceutical and cosmetic studies to energy devices, functional coatings, electronic components, optical materials and gas adsorption. It is available in 25 ml, 100 ml, 500 ml and 1000 ml packs.
- Pharmaceutical research, including diagnostic reagents, anti-cancer and anti-HIV drug studies, and DNA affinity work.
- Cosmetic additives that make use of its antioxidant properties.
- Energy devices such as solar batteries, fuel cells and secondary batteries.
- Industrial materials including lubricants, polymer additives, wear-resistant and flame-retardant coatings, catalysts and composites.
- Electronic and information materials such as semiconductors, diodes, transistors, magnetic materials, printing inks and toners.
- Optical materials, including nonlinear optical materials, and environmental uses such as gas adsorption and storage.
