Shape Memory Polymer MM2520 is a stimuli-responsive smart material supplied in pellet form. After being programmed into a temporary shape, it returns to its original shape when exposed to the right trigger, giving it dual-shape capability.
This grade has a glass transition temperature of 25 ℃. Below Tg it behaves as a rigid glassy material with a Shore D hardness of 78 and a tensile strength of 45 MPa. Above Tg it becomes rubbery, with a hardness of 26 and elongation above 600%. Its specific gravity is 1.25.
Shape memory polymers that respond to heat, light, pH or moisture are used to add smart functions to textiles. They are also widely researched in biomedicine and aerospace.
- Smart textiles that respond to external stimuli.
- Biomedical devices such as smart catheters, smart sutures and drug-delivery systems.
- Biosensor development.
- Self-healing materials and self-repairing automobile parts.
- Research on artificial organs such as artificial muscles.
