This silicon carbide (SiC) micron powder from Nanografi has a stated purity of 99.5+% and a particle size of 45-75 μm. It is a very hard material, rated 9.5 Mohs, with a density of 3.216 g/cm3 at 288k. It is used for refractories, technical ceramics and abrasive work.
The listed composition gives SiC at 99 % and free carbon at 0,05 %. Trace levels are Al 0.018%, Fe 0.057% and Ca 0.050%. The powder also has high thermal conductivity, which suits it to parts that run hot, such as sealing valves, spray nozzles and fluid transport components.
In composites, SiC is added to raise strength and heat resistance. The manufacturer states that the powder is not radioactive and contains no heavy metals, toxic substances or carcinogenic substances.
- Hard, high-grade refractory material.
- Ceramics such as ceramic bearings, textile ceramics, high frequency ceramics and ceramic engine parts.
- Hard discs, polishing abrasives, grinding wheels and supports for multichip modules.
- High temperature sealing valves, spray nozzles and fluid transport parts.
- Reinforcement in composites to increase strength and heat resistance.
