This silicon carbide (SiC) micron powder from Nanografi is supplied as beta-phase whiskers with a purity of 99.5+% and a diameter below 2,6 µm. The whiskers have a length-to-diameter ratio of at least 20, giving an elongated fibre-like form suited to reinforcement work.
SiC is a very hard material, rated 9,50 on the Mohs scale, with a density of 3,22 g/cm3 and a decomposition temperature of 2973.0 K. It also offers high thermal conductivity, which makes it useful in parts exposed to high temperatures and as a refractory.
Typical uses range from technical ceramics and abrasive products to high-temperature components and composites where added strength and heat resistance are needed. The powder is available in 5 g, 25 g and 100 g packs.
- Hard, high-grade refractory material.
- Ceramics such as ceramic bearings, textile ceramics, high frequency ceramics and ceramic engine parts.
- Hard discs, polishing abrasives, grinding wheels and supports for multichip modules.
- High temperature sealing valves, spray nozzles and fluid transport parts.
- Reinforcement in composites to raise strength and heat resistance.
