TCI B6554 is Z-Lys(Z)-OH, an L-lysine derivative in which both the alpha- and epsilon-amino groups are protected as benzyloxycarbonyl (Cbz/Z) carbamates. Leaving only the carboxylic acid free, it allows chemists to activate a single site selectively and avoid branching side reactions during peptide bond formation. The Z groups are conventionally removed by palladium-catalysed hydrogenolysis, making this a classic reagent in solution-phase peptide synthesis and lysine-derivative chemistry.
