This bifunctional arrangement supports esterification, etherification, transesterification, and controlled oxidation, making it a flexible building block for glycolate derivatives and short-chain polyesters. The butyl chain improves solubility in less polar organic media, so the compound is also evaluated as an ester-type solvent in coating and ink formulation studies.
