Description
TCI C0232 4-Chloro-3-nitrotoluene (CAS 89-60-1) is a toluene derivative in which the nitro group activates the adjacent chlorine toward nucleophilic aromatic substitution. Amines, alkoxides, and thiolates readily displace the chloride to give diverse substituted nitrotoluenes. Subsequent reduction of the nitro group provides access to diamines, aminoaryl ethers, and nitrogen heterocycles such as benzimidazoles. TCI supplies this non-heterocyclic building block in a 25 g pack size for laboratory-scale synthetic research.
