Tungsten disulfide (WS2) is a layered transition metal dichalcogenide, in which tungsten atoms are sandwiched between sulfur layers and the layers are held together by weak van der Waals forces. Sputtering targets made from WS2 are solid source materials used in physical vapor deposition (PVD) to deposit thin films of this compound onto substrates for research and development.
