Zinc sulfide (ZnS) is an inorganic II-VI compound semiconductor known for its wide bandgap and good optical transparency in parts of the visible and infrared spectrum. Sputtering targets are dense, solid plates of this material used as the source in physical vapor deposition (PVD) processes, where atoms are ejected from the target and deposited onto a substrate to form uniform thin films.
