A zinc (Zn) sputtering target is a solid metal plate used as the source material in physical vapor deposition (PVD) sputtering systems. Under vacuum and ion bombardment, atoms are ejected from the target and deposited onto a substrate to form a thin film. Zinc targets belong to the metal sputtering target group and are commonly used as a precursor for zinc-based coatings, often through reactive sputtering with oxygen or nitrogen.
