TCI 1-Chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (CAS 97-00-7) is a highly activated aryl chloride whose two nitro groups make it a textbook substrate for nucleophilic aromatic substitution. It is best known in biochemistry as the standard substrate for glutathione S-transferase activity assays monitored by spectrophotometry, and it is also used for amine and thiol derivatisation. The product is supplied in 25 g and 500 g packages for routine assay work and laboratory-scale synthesis. Note that this compound is a potent skin sensitiser: handle it exclusively in a fume hood with double gloves and full protective equipment, and dispose of waste through approved hazardous-waste channels.
