TCI C0859 15-Crown 5-Ether (CAS 33100-27-5) is a macrocyclic polyether whose five oxygen donor atoms coordinate alkali metal cations, with a cavity size commonly associated with sodium ion binding. It is widely used as a phase-transfer catalyst, solubilizing inorganic salts into organic media and enhancing the reactivity of the accompanying anion. Researchers also employ it as an ionophore in ion-selective membrane formulations and as a host molecule in supramolecular host–guest studies.
