TCI C0860 18-Crown 6-Ether (CAS 17455-13-9) is the most widely used member of the crown ether family, with six oxygen donors forming a cavity well matched to the potassium ion. By sequestering K⁺, it liberates the counter-anion and markedly enhances its nucleophilicity and basicity, a principle exploited in phase-transfer catalysis and anion activation. It also serves as a reference ligand in ion-recognition studies, as an ionophore in ion-selective membranes, and as a recognition unit in supramolecular architectures. Supplied in 5g, 25g, and 100g packs, this hygroscopic solid must be stored tightly sealed in a cool, dry place and handled with gloves and eye protection.
